00:00 I joined Illini 4000 b ecause I thought it would be a great personal challenge to myself, I also really stand with the charitable aspect of the ride, because cancer is something that hits home close to my family. I'm not really an avid cyclist, which did come to a surprise to a lot of my friends and family when I decided to do this. But I do have an interest in running and fitness in general. So I thought this would be a great challenge to pick up a new sport. So one of the things that I'm looking forward to most about this summer journey is meeting cancer survivors along the way, because one of the projects that we do is called Portraits. And basically, we meet random people along the way, whether it's at gas stations, or maybe on the road or at a stayover, which is a place that we would stay at like a church or community center, and we interview them and listen to their story and how cancer has affected them or family members they know. Being a Grainger Engineering student will help me for the ride because as a computer science major, we spend a lot of time collaborating with people and problem solving. And these are all things that we're going to have to do on the ride inevitably when things go wrong. So I look forward to applying the skills that we learn at the Grainger College of Engineering to the ride Transcribed by https://otter.ai
