'); document.write('Grew up on a dairy farm with soils that required special conservation and management practices. After studying science in school, I decided to link the two activities and interests.

'); document.write('My research program in soil conservation, soil management and pedology is designed to help commercial producers and government policy makers make better land-use and tillage-practice decisions which result in reduced soil erosion and sedimentation. I have developed five major program emphases: Quantifying the extent of soil loss from erosion. Documenting the effects of erosion on soil productivity. Developing management systems for the maintenance and /or restoration of the productivity of eroded soils. Addressing classification and intepretational needs of the Illinois Cooperative Soil Survey with pedolgical research. Developing soil productivity indices to rank soils and to identify prime farmlands in Illinois.
